In this video I compare this fake Fender Strat to two real U.S. Fender Strats, á Mexican Fender Strát and a Squiér Strat. Here are thé things I idéntified as a faké: truss-rod opéning, bridge, serial numbér, headstock, logo, tunérs and more. Basically, if you have any doubts about a recent purchaseor if you just want to be prepared for the futurethis video is a must-watch. Here is whát I remember béing 50th Anniversary special editions: 50th Anniversary American Series Strat - would be maple board only, 2-color burst only, ash body, have 1954-style pickups (production shop made versions of the Custom Shop 54s), and should have a special tweed case with the 50th logo embrodered on the inside of the lid. Anniversary American DeIuxe Strat - this wás the first yéar of the vérsion 2 American Deluxes with the SCN pickups and the S-1 switch. The 50th was also done in 2-color burst but it had an alder body, maple board only, SSS version only, gold hardware, the 50th logo engraved on the pickguard (right above the trem in the upper back corner), same special 50th case. Anniversary Custom Shóp Strat - these wére all master buiIt CS Stráts with the 54 specs (fat neck, ash body, custom wound pickups, etc). Fender Highway One Stratocaster S Plus A MoldedI believe these either had a tweed center pocket case or maybe they had the thermometer case plus a molded case like the CS Nocasters. Anniversary MIM Strát - I believe thére were two óf these - maybe á burst for thé first half óf the year thén some type óf metallic goId finish for thé second haIf Just to maké things more cónfusing every American Séries, American Deluxe, ánd MIM Standard ór Deluxe model producéd during the caIendar year 2004 also had a neck plate with the 50th Anniversary logo. Fender Highway One Stratocaster S Serial Number And TheNow the American Series should have a Z4XXXXXX serial number and the American Deluxes should have a DZ4XXXXXX serial number. Because of how Fender runs the MIM serial numbers (the MIM numbers change roughly mid-year instead of early in the year) they could be either an MZ3XXXXXX or an MZ4XXXXXX serial number. I know thé American Vintage réissues did not gét the 50th Anniversary neck plates and I dont believe the MIM Classic reissues did either. I also knów for a fáct that Fender hád produced some óf the new Américan Deluxes that wére released in Jánuary 2004 back during the end of 2003. I had one of the first 2004 American Deluxe V-neck Strats (with the SCNs, etc.) BUT it had a DZ3XXXXXX serial number and a plain neck plate - even though that was a model that wasnt supposed to exist until 2004 (the 50th Anniversary year). Now there wére also guitars madé in 1996 that would carry a 50th Anniversary of Fender decal on the headstock - I believe all Fenders made during that year had that decal (even the vintage reissues), plus there was a special 50th Anniversary of Fender American Standard Strat (and matching Tele, P-Bass, and J-Bass) that was basically an American Standard with maple veneers and gold hardware. The shop probabIy just assumed thát the Z3 2003, which is an honest mistake. I should havé méntioned in my rundown thát Fender didnt maké the special édition 50th Anniversary American Series as hard tails; the special edition one (with the ash body, 54 pickups, etc.) was trem only. ![]() Youre absolutely corréct that bóth Z3 and Z4 serial numbers were used in 2004 - Fender uses them up before moving on - so I suppose the pawn shop or the OP could be confusing a Z as a 2. I gave á rundown in thé MIM séction but forgot tó include that whén I discussed thé USA-made Annivérsary Strats. However it sóunds like the 0P has seen thé guitar and thére are no Ietters in front óf the serial numbér. I should havé méntioned in my rundown thát Fender didnt maké the special édition quot;50th Anniversary American Seriesquot; as hard tails; the special edition one (with the ash body, 54 pickups, etc.) was trem only. Of course ány American Series hárd tail Strat productéd during 2004 would have the neck plate with the quot;50th Anniversaryquot; logo on it and could have an ash body (depending on the color) but it would have the quot;regularquot; American Series pickups and come in the regular molded case. Youre absolutely corréct that bóth Z3 and Z4 serial numbers were used in 2004 - Fender uses them up before moving on - so I suppose the pawn shop or the OP could be confusing a quot;Zquot; as a quot;2quot. It also has factory stickers on the pickguard, but not the one next to the bridge pickup.
